The average homeowner spends more time in their garage they most realize. If youre the kind of homeowner that likes to work in the yard, work on your car or just tinker with stuff why not make it easier by adding a few accessories to the garage.
Add a sink
A sink in the garage is one of the most useful plumbing projects you can do. You can wash your hands before you touch the door to the house and anything else before you get to the inside sink. Would like to be able to clean a few tools or paint brushes without having to drag them through your home? Some people want to use soft water when they wash their car or truck. You could give the family dog a bath and not end up with all the dog hair in your kitchen sink or bathtub.
Installing a good quality utility sink in your garage prevents the dragging of dirt into the house from muddy boots. Build a little plant workbench around it and your flowerpots, fertilizers and potty soil will be handy and easy cleanup is assured.
Add a laundry Area
Since Dallas sports a warm climate a vast majority of the time, the garage is an ideal place to put your laundry area. Theres usually plenty room to have a sorting and folding table and maybe a built-in ironing board.
A laundry area in the garage has several benefits including not having to worry if a water hose leaks. Its not going to damage your expense floors. The heat and moisture is kept out of the living areas that are air-conditioned. Moreover, there will probably be a short run for the dryers exhaust pipe and outlet and you wont have to cut hole in a wall in the house.
Storage shelves
Is there isnt a better place than your garage to add some storage shelves. There are usually a few long walls where you can install the shelves. Its a good idea to install modular shelving because its adjustable. That way you can accommodate items that are tall without having to remove an entire shelf and reposition it, or more than likely setting the item in a corner because it was too big.
You can get modular units that have storage cabinets for keeping items secure such as paints and weed killers.
Coat the floor
If you want to make it easier to keep your garage clean, consider coating the floor. The coating stops the concrete dust that driving or walking creates. Did you ever wonder where that real fine white colored dust on your workbench or tools comes from? Well, its the concrete. All uncoated concrete creates dust.
A coated floor is also easier to keep clean as spills wipe up with penetrating the concrete and leaving stains. Floor coatings are available in latex, oil and epoxy paints. If youre going to keep your vehicles in the garage the epoxy coating is the toughest and longest lasting.
Add a tool organizer
A pet peeve of mine is spending fifteen minutes searching for a tool to do a five-minute job. Adding some tool organizers in your garage makes it much easier to grab what you need and get to work on the project. Whether that is trimming the yard or fixing your car, organizing and keeping your tools together, is a big timesaver.
There are tool organizers available for every type of tool including mechanics tools, woodworking, greenhouse, and lawn and garden tools. Get organized and get the job done quicker.
